Spending the night at your guy’s house for the very first time can be a nerve-racking situation. Not only do you want everything to go smoothly, but you also want to make sure you don’t overstay your welcome and you don’t do something that will turn him off. If you’re gearing up for your very first sleepover with a guy you’re really interested in, there are a list of things you shouldn’t do you if you want your first sleepover to turn into many more.

You are watching: How to invite yourself over to a guys house

I know you’re freaking out, but now’s the time to stop stressing over how things will play out. If you just remain cool, your first sleepover will be relaxing, fun and definitely memorable. So hold off on packing that overnight back and don’t bother booking that wax appointment just yet. Before you make the drive over to his place, read this list of 15 things you should never do while sleeping over at his house.

When a guy invites you to spend the night, you should already assume that the invitation is for one night only. You should never even think about extending your stay beyond one night. By outstaying your welcome, you put your guy in a sticky situation. Of course, he enjoys having you around, but he’s ready to have his space back which means, it’s time for you to go!

Don’t put yourself into a predicament by assuming just because the two of you had an awesome night together that you’re free to stay over once again. You should always just assume that once the night is over, it’s time for you to kick rocks. Thank him for the awesome night and the hospitality, give him a kiss goodbye, and go about your business. If you remain cool about the situation, he’ll definitely be inviting you over for yet another sleepover ASAP.

14 Leave Before He Wakes Up

So we’ve already discussed how important it is to get up and out of his way as soon as the night is over, but that doesn’t mean you should sneak out while he’s still asleep. As a matter of fact, leaving his house before he wakes up is not only rude, but it also sends the wrong message. If this guy is your boyfriend, or you want him to be your boyfriend one day, give him the same respect you would expect from him. This means, you should definitely stick around until the morning after. Be polite and cordial as the two of you wake up from your slumber. Don’t assume he’ll be asking you to stick around for breakfast though

It’s always respectful to wait until the both of you are fully awake before you head out the door. Even though he’s a guy, and you think he probably doesn’t really care if you’re there when he wakes up or not, just remember that men have feelings too!

It’s your first night sleeping over, and you’re making yourself comfortable on his cozy leather sectional. It’s 9 PM and your favorite reality TV show is about to come on, so you reach for the remote and start flipping through the channels. If you were hoping this first sleepover would turn into multiple nights of sleeping at his pad, you have just killed all of your chances.

No matter how comfortable you feel with your guy, you’re still a guest in his home, so you need to act accordingly. Allow him to control all of the electronic devices and appliances until your relationship is a little bit more solidified. If you come into his home and immediately start acting like you own the place, you will most definitely turn him off, and he will be counting down the hours until you finally pack your things and get the heck out of his home.

12 Get Wasted

If you want to make a good impression during your sleepover, make sure you stay far away from the alcoholic beverages. Getting completely smashed comes with a bunch of potential awkward and embarrassing scenarios. You could end up puking all over his bathroom, you could get emotional and start crying nonstop, you could trip and fall and break his favorite lamp, or you might blurt out something completely inappropriate that you would never say if you were sober. Make sure you’re on your best behavior, and the only way to ensure that is to avoid getting wasted.

If you just can’t stop yourself from having a drink to get yourself more relaxed and comfortable, give yourself a limit of just one or two drinks max. This way, you can still have a little bit of fun, but you’ll be in better control of yourself, your words and all of your emotions.

11 Hang Clothes in the Closet

Via:homedit.com
When it comes to spending the night, there’s absolutely no reason why you should start hanging all of your clothes in his closet. If you want to make a guy freak out in less than 2 seconds, start giving him the impression that you’re moving in and staking claim on all of his precious closet space. He’ll instantly start regretting inviting you over in the first place.

When it comes to packing for an overnight sleepover, you should always pack clothes that don’t need to be hung up. If you’re sleeping over on a work night, and you have to wear business attire to your job, ask him if you can hang your pencil skirt and blazer in his closet; but you should never just assume that you can have access to his personal space.

By respecting his boundaries and his home, you will be setting yourself up to be asked over again for another night of fun.

10 Pack a Suitcase

You will likely be staying at his home for less than 24-hours, so there really isn’t a reason for you to pack a big and gigantic suitcase. For an overnight stay, all you really need are some decent clothes you can wear to make the trek to and from his house, your toiletries, and a pair of shoes. Pajamas are optional, of course.

He is excited that you are going to spend the night at his home, but the second you roll your suitcase into his living room, he’ll definitely start to panic. When it comes to spending the night, you don’t want to scare the guy off by making it appear as if you are moving in to his home and taking over his palace. So skip out on the suitcase and pack a small and cute duffle bag instead. It will definitely be a lot less intimidating for your guy.

When it comes to spending that night at your guy’s house, you want to make sure you’re the best houseguest he has ever had. This means, try not to leave a mess everywhere you go! He probably spent all day cleaning and making sure everything was nice and tidy just for you. For you to come in and toss your things on the ground, spill soda on his floor or leave toothpaste in his sink is just plain rude!

If you want to be invited over again…and again…and again, make sure you leave his house in the same condition it was in when you arrived. Everything that you pick up should be put back in its correct spot, offer to help him make the bed the morning after, and if you do make a little bit of a mess in his home, offer to clean it right up. He will appreciate you for being considerate and not leaving a mess behind.

8 Chronicle the Night on Social Media

Seriously, put the phone down. As a matter of fact, just turn your cell phone off completely. During your night together, you should be giving him your full attention. Have fun doing whatever he has planned for the two of you, and just live in the moment. Don’t even think about chronicling the entire night on your social media accounts!

“Just pulled up to Brad’s house…Oooooh, so nice in here….Big screen TV on fleek!….Yummy dinner prepared by Brad….Feeling sleepy, time to knock out!” No, just NO!

This is the quickest way to get yourself disinvited from his house for the rest of your life. Practice a little bit of decorum, and even if you want to let everyone and their mama know that you’re finally spending the night with the man of your dreams, try to keep all the intimate details to yourself. This sleepover is between the two of you and only the two of you! The rest of your social media followers really don’t need the play-by-play.

7 Hog the Bed

via today.com
One of the most nerve-racking things about spending the night at your beau’s house is trying to control the things you can’t control, like snoring or farting in your sleep. But for the things you can control, you should try your hardest to make the slumber party as pleasant as possible.

Your guy is probably pretty used to sleeping alone at this point, and an extra body in his king size will definitely throw him off at first. If you want to make sure your night with him goes as planned, try not to hog the bed. You can cuddle for a little bit, but as soon as you start drifting off to sleep, make a move for it, sister. Try to remain on your side of the bed by all means necessary. Essentially, you want to act like you’re not even there. If you don’t disrupt his sleeping pattern in any way, he will feel more inclined to invite you to spend another night with him in his home.

6 Make Selfish Demands

As a visitor in his home, you really don’t have the right to make demands…especially if they’re selfish. So, how do you know if your demands are selfish or not? If you’re basically trying to get him to alter or change the way he lives just to suit your needs for the night, then you’re being totally selfish!

Asking him to turn off the air conditioner when he has already told you he gets super hot when he sleeps, asking him to keep the light on because you’re afraid of the dark, and asking him to set his alarm for a super early time that will disrupt his sleep are all signs that you’re being selfish. If you’re not able to go into his home and play by his rules, then perhaps you should stay home. Or even better, you could invite him over to your house where you can control any and everything.

If you’re giving him a bunch of selfish demands the moment you walk through the door, be prepared for the sleepover from hell. Things will probably be extremely awkward between the two of you, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he never called you again.

5 Dig Through His Fridge

wifflegif.com
Before heading over to his house, make sure you eat a light snack to keep your tummy full. If he hasn’t offered to cook you dinner, and he doesn’t have any plans on ordering in some food, you want to make sure you’re not completely starving by the time you arrive.Once you get to his home, don’t even think about rummaging through his fridge. As a matter of fact, you shouldn’t be opening up his fridge at all. Unless he gives you permission to dig through his refrigerator, you should pretty much consider his entire kitchen as off limits.

Some people are territorial when it comes to their home. And maybe he didn’t have enough time to clean his fridge so he doesn’t want you to open it and be turned off. Just slowly back away from the fridge, woman. If you need a drink of water, or if he’s kind enough to offer you a snack, let him get it for you so that you don’t infringe on his personal space.

4 Leave Things Behind

Your night of fun is coming to an end. The sun is up, the two of you have brushed your teeth, washed your faces, and you’re dressed head to toe in your “walk of shame” outfit. Now that’s it’s time for you to head out, make sure you have gathered all of your belongings. Seriously, don’t leave anything behind - not even a hair tie. When it comes to spending the night, you and your guy are still trying to get a feel for each other. You don’t know if he’ll want you to come over for a second time, and you’re not even sure if you’ll accept another sleepover invitation at this point. To make things easier for the both of you, make sure that you pack up everything that you brought along with you.

Leaving something behind may give him the wrong idea. If you accidentally leave something behind, that’s fine, but if you’re leaving a memento behind to stake your claim on his home, then you’re really in for a rude awakening. Don’t be surprised if he snail mails your trinket right back to your home and never talks to you ever again.

It may be super tempting to go through his things, but snap out of it, sister. Now is not the time to dig through his underwear drawer or to snoop through his medicine cabinet. If your guy is like most guys, he will instantly know when something is out of place, and guess who will look like the psycho snooper? You, of course! Not only is snooping disrespectful, but it really shows your insecurity. If you’re already doing a five-point inspection on all of his personal belongings that’s just simply not cool. If you feel the need to snoop through your guy’s things the second he allows you in his home, you need to figure out why you’re allowing your insecurities to make you act like a crazy person.

If he catches you going through his things, he’ll be calling you an uber almost immediately. So keep your hands and eyes where they belong, and resist the urge to snoop.

2 Use His Toiletries

As your relationship heats up, you and your guy will likely start to share many things with each other. Borrowing his toothpaste or even a bit of his deodorant isn’t a problem when the two of you have been dating for awhile. And if you forget your hairspray at home, he won’t mind letting you borrow a spritz or two of his. But at the start of your relationship and, you should come prepared with all of your own toiletries.

If you show up to his house and ask to use his mouthwash, his tweezers and his nail clippers, he will look at you like you’re the houseguest from hell. So make sure you have packed all of the essentials you will need for a night away from home. If you do forget something important, just consider yourself out of luck, and whatever you do, don’t help yourself to his products.

Lastly, try not to make yourself at home. I know it’s tempting to want to prop your feet up on the coffee table, take off your bra, and start flipping through the television channels; but you’ve got to get ahold of yourself.

When you enter a guy’s house and make yourself at home, he won’t only look at you like you’re nuts, but he’ll probably be desperately waiting for the night to finally be over. The key to making sure your night goes well is to keep reminding yourself that you are on someone else’s turf. He makes the decisions and he calls the shots, unless he acts for your input, of course.

You do want him to invite you over for another sleepover, right? So play it cool at first. Allow him to take the lead, and observe how comfortable the two of you become with each other. As your relationship blossoms and the two of you get into your own routine, you will feel more comfortable with making yourself at home, controlling his remote control, using his toiletries and opening his fridge without permission. But until that day comes, remind yourself that this is not your home, and you’re simply a guest…a temporary guest at that.
