In WoW Classic, Night Elves might want to get to Stormwind and the Eastern Kingdoms to quest or meet up with their friends. As those of us who have done this run will attest, getting there is… interesting.

Step 1 – Leave Teldrassil

Before you leave, think about your armor. One strategy is you take off all your armor and stow it in your bank. You are going to be running through zones where the inhabitants may be skull level to you. Broken armor costs money to repair — money which you might not have a lot of. Depending upon your level, you’re going to die — often, a lot. Repeatedly. You’ll be able to pick up your gear once you get to Ironforge. Or, maybe don’t take off your gear, especially if you’re making the run at a higher level. After all, maybe you can, with some judicious attacks — or the help of people questing in the area — kill some of these dangerous mobs. The amount of experience you’ll get — as well as drops — could be worth whatever you’ll pay in repairs. The choice is yours.

Take the portal from Darnassus to the docks and ask the gryphon master for a ride to Auberdine — or you can take the boat to Auberdine. Either works.

Step 2 – Auberdine to Menethil

At The Long Wash get on the boat to Menethil Harbor. It’s the one to the south, or on the left if your back is to Auberdine.

Step 3 – Menethil to Loch Modan or “The Great Wetlands Corpse Run”

Pick up the flight path in Menethil — steel yourself — and run out of town. This is going to be the part which tries your patience.

The first thing to do is get past Bluegill Marsh and murlocs on one side and Blackchannel Marsh packed with raptors on the other. Just beyond the first bridge, where you can see a graveyard off to your left, a few murlocs wander close. The same is true of the raptors to the right. Most mobs stay out of aggro range but as you approach the hills, there are raptors who are close to the road. If you have any kind of speed boost, it will be handy because you can outrun both.

Once you leave the murlocs and the raptors behind, you might as well be slathered in BBQ sauce. From here — close to Whelgar’s Excavation Site, until you reach the second road to the left, which takes you to Raptor Ridge — crocolisks are spreading the word you’re on the road. If you’re doing this run as level 25-30, you’ll still pull crocs, but you should be able to defeat them. Below this level — and especially if you’re level 3-20 — they are comparing notes about where they ate you.

Learn to love corpse runs

If you have never done a repeated corpse run, you will learn how to do it on the Wetlands road. It’s quite simple really. WHEN, not if, you die, open up your mini map and take note of where your body is. Release. Now, open up the map and note where the graveyard is in relation to where you died.

There is a chance — slim, but a chance — the closest graveyard to your corpse is in front of you. It’s worth the rez sickness to continue on your way rather than going backwards toward your body, especially if you tossed your gear in the bank. Note: low levels don’t have rez sickness.

If you find yourself at a graveyard behind where you died, run forward, past your body, until you reach a point where the “Resurrect now” button disappears. Back up until it reappears, rez, and run like the dickens. You’re going to hear that horrible snorting noise of a croc rising out of the fen to come after you. Just keep going and try to get maybe 10 steps from where you last died.

Another issue along this road are Angerfang Orcs on the right near the second left. There are guards along the road into the encampment. If you are trying to get away from a croc and run too close to them, they take over from the crocs. Fortunately (?), there is a graveyard along the road where you might find yourself rezzing in front of your body.

Once you pass the second left, you are in Mosshide Fen. You’ll see gnolls off to the left but they don’t get close to the road. Those crocs, however, are still coming up out of the fen to eat you. This is going to continue until the road reaches the lake. Once there, you’re going to change crocs for spiders.

Step 4 – Loch Modan to Dun Morogh and Ironforge

Huzzah! You made it through Wetlands. Travel through the tunnels into the hills, but watch out. On the right between tunnels 2 and 3, are a bunch of level 20 humanoid mobs which love Night Elf brined in Wetlands swamp water. There is a quest to kill them, but you’re too low level to get it yet. They are right next to the road. Sometimes, your death puts you in the graveyard at Thelsamar — which is good, because you can just take that res from the graveyard and keep going.

Once you’ve made it to Dun Algaz, you do not need to run through Loch Modan to get to Dun Morogh. At Algaz Station, take a right and run through Northgate Pass toward Ironforge. However, I suggest running to Thelsamar to get the flight path.

The great thing about Loch Modan and Dun Morogh are the number of guards along the road. You can drag something toward a guard and they help kill it. If you want, from Thelsamar continue on the road toward Southgate Guard Tower, turn right, and run through that tunnel. It connects in Dun Morogh with the road from Northgate Pass.

From here, just run along the road. You should be able to — unless you’re less than level 10 — kill anything which attacks.

Step 5 – Ironforge to Stormwind

Once in Ironforge, you’ll need to head to the Deeprun Tram to finish your journey to Stormwind, which is located in Tinker Town on the east. Be sure you head into the Great Forge and get the flight path before you board the tram!

You will get a decent amount of experience doing this trek. Also, don’t forget to either get your gear from the bank, or repair if you’ve chosen to wear your armor.
