I was quite liking this game and had a pretty decent shelter going, with about 30k caps in the bank but last night I got a mole rat attack which killed almost everyone in the vault and I rage quit.. all the dwellers were equipped with decent weapons and were fairly levelled up but the mole rat army made short work of them all! They seem to multiply when they spread throughout the vault? They seem pretty OP, compared to the trivial enemy they are in the rest of the series.. I was pretty pissed and can't be bothered picking up the pieces again, was a good run while it lasted.. T-T
Keep in mind, enemies are stronger in rooms that have been upgraded or merged. A mole rat in a level 1 single room is far weaker than a mole rat in a level 3 triple room. There will also be more of them in a larger room, of course.

So, it's a good idea to wait on upgrading and merging rooms until you have a good stock of endurance trained Dwellers, plus some good weapons. My current Vault has neither, but molerats are easy because my rooms are at most doubled, and only upgraded one level.
This is excellent advice. It took me a few vaults to learn that lesson. Currently my vault has 180 dwellers, I've just started producing legendary clothing and weapons, but my production rooms are all at level 2, so my dwellers crush any critter uprisings almost immediately. (Med-bay and Science rooms are at level 3, only exception.)
Also, keep the training rooms at level 1, all the time. Upgrading doesn't really help much, just provides the potential to spawn powerful critter attacks.
Oh shit I didn't know that! Definitely something to bear in mine for my Survival vaults. Maybe that's why I've been struggling with them.
I had a vault that was pretty much maxed out. Almost everyone had laser pistols or better, and I had 200 dwellers.
Radroaches. FUCKING RADROACHES, THE WEAKEST ENEMY IN THE GAME, killed everyone except two children, who were both female and out of mercy I kicked them out of the vault when they grew up and deleted the file.
Sounds like you probably expanded way too fast. 200 dwellers armed with trash weapons like laser pistols is asking for trouble.
They seem to multiply when they spread throughout the vault?
Fire or Mole Rat incidents that are not resolved in time end in the current room, and spread to all adjacent rooms (skipping over elevators) where that incident has not yet been. So say you have three rooms (of whatever size) in a row, and the next row down has one room below the center room in the first row. It catches on fire. If you don't put out the fire in time, it will burn out in the first room, and will spread to the room directly above it. If you don't put the fire out in that room in time, it will spread to the two rooms adjacent to it, but it will not spread back down to the first room, which has already been on fire during this incident. Depending on the design and size of your vault, this may give you strategies for which rooms to control first.
I believe that an incident that spreads to a new room acts as if it spawned in that room for purposes of ending it. So if a 3 wide level 3 room catches fire, and spreads to two adjacent 1 wide level 1 room, it will be much easier to fight in those rooms.
