Be prepared to go really slow. It is basically a lawn mower engine attached to a lower unit. My buddy HAD one on his 1436 jon boat. We could cruise up river at a lofty 6-7mph. The sound while going upriver reminded my that I should have been mowing the lawn. We would hit the river in Bloomsburg, and take an hour or more to get to Berwick. He traded it off on a 15hp merc.I will say one thing though...It took ALL day to burn 3 gallons of fuel. A good thing as that was how long it took to get anywhere. It is air cooled so there isn"t any cooling system to worry about. There is a very slow pitch on the prop, and the engine spins at a very low RPM...Like a lawn mower. I think a slightly faster pitch on the prop would help greatly, but there is only one source for a prop.
Now at least they put a decent black cowling on them. they are a 4 stroke so they will never run with a 2 stroke Merc.
i aM so happy with mine its fast on my 12ft jon ya maybe a little loud but no nig deal to me i had so much fun on mine it went alot faster than everyone told me it would!
I bought one about 5 years ago, at that time it was one of the only 4-stroke motors I could find, and was reasonably priced. I can"t say anything bad about mine, it always starts and even survived a shed fire where I was storing it. Yes, not a lot of get-up-and-go, but on the plus side, I never need to drag a trolling motor along. I think Briggs & stratton stopped making them. Wonder why, I love mine.

Good motor you have there, in my opinion. I had one years ago on a 14 foot semi-V I had. No, it"s not fast but when fishing who"s in a hurry? I never am. Briggs motors are reliable and very easy to work on. Taken care of they seem to be almost bulletproof.
I just got one, and mine is actually a little too fast because I have it on a 10 footer. I"ve heard you can put an even slower pitch prop on them using an electric motor prop. Anybody else heard of this?
