I did a search and found one thread pertaining to this, but no one gave an answer. How often do our fuel filters require changing. My freind has a newer cavalier and his needs changed regularly. How do I go about changing it?

Our fuel filter is inside the gas tank, so unless you want to cut a hole in the gas tank there is no way of changing them.

i doubt that...all cars need the fuel filter changed. there may be a pre-pump filter screen in there. but usually the fuel filter itself is inline after the pump and before the fuel rail and injectors.

its in the tank--- under the back seat. There is a ring and then you remove the pump and take the whole can apart. Fun smelly procedure- see service manual. Before hand you buy a new one for 50 something bucks and a new gasket for the tank ring $3 or so. Then your car smells like gas for 2-3 days. If you don"t put it back together right your idle will be all fubar. The pickup screen only comes with a new fuel pump. Use pressurized air to clean that if you want. Thoroughly not worth the effort- done it a few times now- once to replace the filter the other times to work on the walbro.

i acess my tank/pump from the same place. its not that bad. be happy that unlike some cars you dont have to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump.

Thanks Neffarious, so how many mile intervals should this be replaced? Does mitsu reccomend replacing it ever?

Hmmm, didn"t know you could change it. Learn something new everyday, I don"t recall seeing a # for changing the fuel filter for the 3g. im sure the service has it somewhere in there.

also, i looked at the index section of the on-line service manual here and it says the fuel tank stuff is in section 13-c. does anybody have section 13-c because the on-line one doesnt?
